Nunca regressou a casa.

***

In 1971, five years before I was born, James Douglas Morrison left the World in his apartment in Paris. He had spent his last days there in this life. There he is buried. He never came home. When he left America, I think he took with him a grief for not being understood in his art. Or maybe not, leaving America for not understanding it was a sense of mission accomplished: it had shaken the World with its poetry, attitude and philosophical vision.
I remember the first time I read the poems of King Lizard, Mr. Mojo, Jimbo, or just Jim. If I liked to write, that taste became a way of being when I awoke to poetry. For a free poem, nonconformist, restless, transformed into poetry spoken, conversed, with the purpose of expanding the conscious, in this and other universes.
Listening to Morrison for hours to declaim poetry is one of the most sublime mental journeys that has become recurrent since my childhood and will follow through to the end.
A feeling that haunts me, the regret of not having stayed with us any longer to write more and to inspire. Having Morrison in modern times would be fabulous.
