My Favorite Poem || The Revenant

The Revenant is the most beautiful poem I ever felt.

Through those 156 minutes I saw, I lived, I was embraced by a lifetime film experience.

I read the book by Michael Punke some months before and even when I was reading it, I was deeply touched by the extraordinary story of Hugh Glass and those men.

When I finished reading, I was sure that only brilliant actors as Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy could perform Glass and Fitzgerald.

I was anxious to see the film. But after, when I saw the film on theatre, I was out of my mind.

It went beyond my expectations.

I wasn't ready for such beauty and powerful images, sounds, costumes, music and above all, performances.

I can't describe what I felt watching the film but in the end, as I was leaving the theatre, I felt I left my heart in those landscapes.

So, thank you Mr. Alejandro G. Inarritu for your vision, thank you Mr. Leonardo DiCaprio for touching my heart and thank you Mr. Tom Hardy for, once again, you transcend yourself. But also to Will Poulter, to Domhnall Gleeson, to all the cast and with a special and deep thank you to all actors that performed the indigenous people and showed us one more time the deep wisdom and beautiful way of living and facing life.

The Revenant took my heart.

Time will pass by but it will remain forever as my favorite poem because it was made by visionary poets.

The First Woman to Vote in Portugal

Carolina Beatriz Ângelo (Guarda, April 16, 1878 - Lisbon, October 3, 1911) was a doctor and Portuguese feminist. She was the first woman to vote in the country on the occasion of the Constituent Assembly elections in 1911.

She attended the high school in his native city, Guarda. Later she joined the Polytechnic School and Medical-Surgical in Lisbon, where she graduated in medicine in 1902.

Suffragette, stood out as a militant of the Republican Women's League, founder and president of the Feminist Propaganda Association.

Being a widow and having to support their children, allowed her to plead in court the right to be considered "householder", thus becoming the first to vote in the country in constituent elections on 28 May 1911. In order to prevent such example could be repeated, the law was changed the following year, specifying that only the male householders could vote.

Surgeon and activist for women's rights, Carolina Beatriz Ângelo was the first woman to vote in Portugal.

Portuguese women would have to wait for Salazar and by the year 1931 to be awarded the right to vote and yet, with restrictions: only could vote those who had secondary courses or higher, while for men it was still enough to read and write.

The electoral law of May 1946 extended the right to vote to men who, being illiterate, paid to the State at least 100 tax coins and family of the chief women and married that knowing how to read and write, had its own assets and paid by least 200 tax coins of property tax .

In December 1968 it was granted the right to political vote to women, but the parish councils continued to be elected only by householders. Only in 1974, already after the April 25, would be abolished all restrictions on the electoral capacity of citizens based on gender.

We Exist In Black

when the sun warms our days and the sky way up high is filled with blue, gives that will make the contrast by using the color deeper, more intense of all colors, black.
truly fantastic, when we use the black in the daytime sun, we feel an immense inner power, an unshakable force.
we exist in black.
we fuse it in with black.

The Bohemian Word || Balzac

***
In the fifteenth century, it has come to mean 'Gypsy' or members of nomadic tribes allegedly originating in the Bohemia region.
In the seventeenth century, with Tallemant des Réaux, bohème shall also designate the individual "who leads a dissolute life," a lifestyle characterized by the lack of concern with regard to material goods, to large projects, standards. It was to describe a life on the margins of society and cultivate a new form of freedom of thought, and a concern to use such eccentric clothes.

The term goes from French to Portuguese within the meaning of the seventeenth century: 'bum, individual riotous living' or unconventional, possibly linked to the arts or literature, or mere adventurer who lived carefree manner.

In this sense, later, in the nineteenth century it appears an artistic and literary movement, made on the sidelines of the Romantic movement, more "aristocratic" and out of use of their time.

Balzac is that in 1844, when he wrote A Prince of Bohemia, is high praise to such juvenile behavior: "The Bohemian word says it all. She has nothing and lives of all. Hope is its religion, faith itself is the code, charity your budget. All these young people are bigger than their misfortune, below the luck, but above the target. "

The Portuguese Shawl : Origins

Use the scarf or shawl (the Persian shal) is very old, at least in the East, maybe it's originally from Kashmir, its main production center. In the West its use appears only in the early nineteenth century.

The use of the shawl seems to have been introduced to Europe around 1798 by French soldiers who made the campaign in Egypt.

They were very expensive, and the finest that were made of the hair of a goat that existed in northern India and its preparation took about a year.

However, in 1818, the French began to imitate the Shawl of Kashmir, but the warp was silk and woof in Tibetan goat hair and merino or Australian wool, maintaining the richness of colors and the beauty of typically oriental designs, but as its use has been disclosing any material or design served to your clothing.

In Portugal they entered slowly.

The first shawls have been brought by ship captains that offered to their wives. Initially were used as the house ornament, only later they began to appear at dances involving the shoulders of women.

The exceptional Revenant

The 73rd Golden Globe Awards took place at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on last 10th January and it was as amazing night for The Revenant.

So well deserved the Golden Globe for Best Actor Drama for Leonardo DiCaprio for The Revenant, the best director for Alejandro Inarritu and for sure the best movie for The Revenant!

Amazing and powerful acceptance speech of Leonardo DiCaprio calling everyone attention to protect native lands and their legacy. So deep words spoken with emotion by the brilliant actor.

Really can't wait for the premiere at Portugal to go see it, I had read the book and fall in love with the story. I was reading it and trying to imagine how Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hardy would play their parts and only masters of cinema can bring alive that incredible story.

Here goes my fav from that night from Leonardo DiCaprio always so elegant, to Harrison Ford, to the ladies specially Jennifer Lawrence in a stunning red color, Julianne Moore and Kate Winslet both in a beautiful blue to the beautiful family of Sylvester Stallone dating the dad.

Hollywood knows how to present us with glamour and it was there, but there's more to come, more awards and the final big night, the Oscars.

See you there!

Lot's of luv,
